Pellets are hygroscopic: moisture gets in — they crumble, feed worse into the auger and burn worse. That's why the store matters more than the «nice color» in the photo.
Basic rules
- Dry: no leaks, no wet concrete «in the puddle».
- Level: no bags on bare earth, bulk in the intended silo or textile silo.
- Clean: dust and fines collect at the bottom and can smoulder.
When to clean
Once per season or when changing suppliers, remove the fines from the floor. Climbing into the silo yourself without knowledge of dust and oxygen is risky — a service often does it.
Typical mistakes
Storing bags at open garage doors, blowing into a still-damp new silo, mixing an old damp batch with a new one «so it evens out».
